Open Gyms - Time Change

Since we had such a great turn out for the open gym tonight, we have decided to extend the time of the rest of the open gyms by 30 min. Starting next week, all open gyms will be from 7:00-8:30pm at Kell HS.

Homework Assignment

Players: At the beginning of practice we gave everyone a homework assignment to come to practice tomorrow with 4 goals written down on paper. 3 of those goals should be goals you set for yourself to improve upon by the end of the season. The last goal should be a goal you want to accomplish as a team.

Parents: Please help remind your daughters of this homework assignment and talk with them about these goals so you, too, can help hold them accountable.

Optional homework assignment: If you would like to have input about the t-shirt design this season, please bring any drawings/quotes/sayings to practice tomorrow.

All of us coaches were VERY impressed with with everyone's hard work tonight! We want you to keep up the momentum at practice tomorrow night.

Summer Time :)

Hey Everyone!

Now that the school year is ending and summer time is almost here I wanted to let you girls/parents know about some upcoming volleyball stuff if the area. I hope all you girls had a great 2009-2010 school year and did well in all of your classes!

Coaches for the 2010 Season:
Most of you have probably already been informed that Jessica Steadman has moved back home to Chicago and will not be joining us for the upcoming season as head coach. She did such a fantastic job last year that I was very unhappy to hear that I would not be coaching with her again next year. My name is Lisa Maguire and I helped Coach Steadman last year with the middle school team. I will be returning this year as a coach and I have asked Amy Maurer to help coach with me. Her and I were both on the Kell Longhorn volleyball team when we were in high school from 2002-2006. We are both very excited for this upcoming season and cannot wait to see what it brings :).

Kell High School 1st Annual Volleyball Camp:
July 12th-14th from 1pm-4pm for raising 6th-9th graders. The camp will be held in the Kell High School main gym. Contact Coach Steinlight at tracy.steinlight@cobbk12.org or me at lmaguire7@comcast.net for the flyer and registration information.

Middle School Open Gym Dates:
I am so excited for our middle school gym dates this year. We will be working on the basics of volleyball (serving, receiving, setting and hitting) along with fun games. The open gym dates are going to be June 2, 9, 23, 30 and July 14, 28 from 6:30-8:00pm. Feel free to contact me with any question regarding the open gym dates.

Kell Juniors Volleyball Tryouts:
Our Tryouts will be held August 4th and 5th from 6:30-8:30pm in the Kell High School main gym. Please make sure that all the girls trying out have completed a physical. I will be having the parents fill out an emergancy contact information sheet on the first day of tryouts. If you will not be dropping your kids off at the tryouts please email me so I can send you the contact sheet to send with them.

I will be putting up flyers around the area this summer with information about upcoming events. I will also be updating the website with any new information I find. If you would like a copy of the flyer, please email me and I will send you one.

Congratulations to Ashley Jones and Eliana Tiller who both made club teams this year! Eliana tried out for and made the Cobb Atlanta team while Ashley is playing for TCA's 15's team! Good luck to both girls this season and I will be out to see some of your matches!

Last Matches of the Season A Success!

In their last two matches of the 2009 season, the Junior Longhorns were victorious over Sprayberry and Hillgrove, defeating both teams in 2 sets. The team ended the season with an 18-12 overall record!

The Season Is Winding Down!

As sad as I am to say it, there are only two more days of matches left in the 2009 season :( Tonight the girls take on Booth B and Booth A and then play Sprayberry and Hillgrove on Wednesday. Tomorrow is Junior Longhorn night at Kell HS where the girls will go and watch the varsity play at 5:00 pm at Kell HS.

Saturday is the End of the Year Banquet and I have some awards to give out!! Parents, I sent out an email so please respond to me with how many will be in attendance. The more the better!

One & One

On Thursday night, Kell Juniors started off on a bad note, falling to Harrison in 2 games. The girls were a little out of whack since starting libero, Eliana Tiller, wasn't there for the first match. However, the girls pulled it together in the second match, defeating Allatoona in 2 sets.

Junior Longhorns Now 12-7

The Junior Longhorns had an excellent showing at the Kennesaw Mountain Tri-Match, coming back to defeat Kenn. Mtn in three games and then beating Woodstock in two. For the first time in awhile everyone was present and mostly healthy!

Just A Little Rusty...

After an entire week off from volleyball, the Junior Longhorns were a little rusty but managed a split on Monday night that saw them defeat Booth B and then fall to Booth A. It was Laura Kirby's first time touching a ball in almost two weeks after her surgery and Eliana Tiller was able to play after injuring her shoulder in practice over a week ago.

Matches On Monday Sept. 28th

After a week off, the Junior Longhorns have two matches scheduled for Monday Sept. 28th at Kell HS. The girls will be playing Booth A and Booth B.

The games are at 6:30 and 7:30 so please be there by 6 and ready to go! We will need the whole 1/2 hour to warm up since we haven't played in a week! Bring all of your jerseys but plan on wearing the black ones!

Practice on Monday and games on Tuesday are canceled due to this crazy weather!
